Saltersgate School Outdoor Learning
As a school we are committed to the value of outdoor learning for all of our students. Throughout their time at Saltersgate there will be a range of opportunities to take part in outdoor learning experiences.
What sort of activities will this involve?
Local community visits: This may involve activities in the local area, for example shopping tasks, visits to local parks, using local cafes, library and community facilities, independent travel training, local walks and other educational visits (castles, museum, zoo, farms).
Cycling: We are a cycle friendly school, and many students will have opportunities to enjoy learning cycling skills at school. Most cycling is within the school playground on bikes and trikes, and some students will have opportunities to cycle further afield along local cycle paths and safe cycle routes.
Other outdoor activities: Some activities may seem more adventurous, as they involve exploring and learning about the countryside. These trips are led by a specialist outdoor learning teacher, and may include hillwalking, coastal walks, exploring streams and woodlands etc.
What should students wear?
The school can provide a range of outdoor clothing e.g. wellies or walking boots, waterproofs, fleeces, hats and gloves, but students are welcome to bring their own.
